Commissioned by the University of Mississippi Medical Center for their Children’s of Mississippi Family Waiting Room, the Watersheds series was co-designed through a series of conversations and draft sharing between the artist, a range of staff members, and family groups.
In Watersheds, johnson ponders the lines which tie people together; the connections and disconnections forged between natural limits and man-made structures layered upon them. Printed on plexiglass, these digital prints of cut paper and found object assemblages reflect their surroundings as if a collection in a display case. The “in progress” style of the compositions invites viewers to imagine picking up the pieces and continuing the creative process.
Watersheds pieces Pearl Watershed and Big Sunflower Watershed were both featured in the 2021 Mississippi Invitational at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
